About:
Raju (Ram Charan), a street-smart guy, always wins at betting and earns money from it and lives with his adopted parents at a slum. One day, his father (M S Narayana) falls ill and he is diagnosed with liver-related disease and doctors ask him to bring Rs 20 Lakhs for the transplantation of liver. At the same time, a proposal comes to him that if he makes a notorious Business tycoon Ballari's (Mukesh Rishi) daughter Chaitra (Tamannah) fall in love with him, he would get the money for his father's operation. Raju accepts the challenge and subsequently makes her fall in his love. But there is a twist in the tale; there is a mission behind this mission. Rest of the drama is all about knowing the real reason behind this bet.
Analysis:
Racha is regular mass-masala entertainer - with hero romancing the heroine in the first half, and completing his mission of saving his villagers from a greedy businessman in the second half. It is a time-tested template for many of our commercial mass-action movies. And one movie old director Sampath Nandi follows the same pattern but he smoothly incorporates the essential ingredients - dialogues, good dances and glamour show - that mass audiences and fans of the star would love to see.
First half of the movie banks on comedy by Brahmanandam and Tamannah's glamour and second half of the movie on the action part. Last 15 minutes are its major plus point.
Performances:
Ram Charan shines in a role of a street-smart guy and has looked very energetic in the movie, though many of his gestures remind us of his father Chiranjeevi's antics. There is certain grace in his style and gait. But he needs to hone acting skills further especially in bringing out varied emotions on to the face.
Tamannah is a major asset to the movie - her glamour and skin show is eye feast for male eye. Her presence lifts many dull moments.
Mukesh Rishi as main villain and Azmal (of Rangam fame) have done their job well though their roles are not substantial. Brahmanandam provides some laughs. Parthiban as Ram Charan's father is okay. Kota, Parachuri Venkateshwara Rao and Dev Gill make their presence felt. The film also has countless one-scene actors.
Technical Values:
Among the technicians, cinematographer Sameer Reddy's work stands out. Manisharma's songs are okay. Parachuri Brothers have written dialogues in same manner that they have been writing for years. Action sequence in a Bamboo forest is good. Editing by Gowtham Raju lacks consistency.
Sampath Nandi as the director has tried to make the audiences glue to the seats even though predictable scenes run throughout the movie.
Final Words:
Both actor Ram Charan and his director Sampath Nandi have played safe game by following the same pattern of earlier mass-masala movies. Racha offers nothing new but has enough elements that entertain the mass audiences and mega fans; for them it is paisa vasool one.
